Girl Scout Daisy Day will be April 3, 2010 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM

If you want the Daisies to go to this event, we need $15 per girl and 2 adults to volunteer to drive and attend ASAP. Monette or I can do the paperwork on January 5th or January 19th. This event will fill up very soon. It is for Daisies only and is in south Dallas.

This program offers Girl Scout Daisies a day at a Girl Scout Camp. Girls will discover and develop a strong sense of self while learning more about our camps and outdoor programs. This is a group event with GS Troop adults providing supervision and transportation to camp. Experience a traditional Girl Scout outdoor program – flag ceremony, crafts, s’mores over an open fire – as well as a horseback ride. All activities will enable girls to connect with others in their GS Troop, other GS Troops, older girls and event staff to promote cooperation and team building. Each girl will receive a limited amount of riding time . All activities will meet SafetyWise standards. This workshop empowers girls to take action to make a difference at camp.

What to Bring:
Girls should bring lunch, water bottle, sun hat, closed toe shoes, and sunscreen. Boots are optional.

Troop 3763 is heading camping on Friday, February 5th. We are going on a trial overnite to see if the Daisies and Brownies are ready to go tent camping close to home or cabin camping further away from home. We are renting the Troop House from the nearby (less than 15miles away) Girl Scout Camp. It has gas heat and a full kitchen and bathroom. We will also have mattresses on the concrete floor, so you only need worry about a slumber bag not a winter sleeping bag. If you don’t have a sleeping bag or slumber bag, you may be able to borrow one or I can teach you how to make a bedroll from an old comforter and twin sheet and light blanket.

The troop has the place rented and reserved and we have 3 adults ready to take your girls. Now we need 7 to 12 girls to take the spaces. To reserve your spot please pay $30 each as soon as possible and no later than February 2nd. If I don’t have 7 girls by January 19th, I will invite some area Daisies to go with us.

Let me know too what indoor activity your daughter would like to do?

  • cooking
  • sewing
  • international games
  • art/crafts

I’m looking forward to this winter get away with the girls. Let me know also if your daughter wishes she could go but absolutely cannot be away from her mamma. I may be able to include mom as one of the safety-wise moms.

I am moving our email and specific event posts to Big Tent. This will allow you to see all the GS events for our different troops and Service Unit in layers on a month view of calendar. For example in January we have:

  • Troop 3763 Mtgs first and third Tuesdays
  • Troop 3310 Mtgs second and fourth Tuesdays
  • SU403 events Jan 17 card decorating, Jan 23 Polar Swim, Jan 30 Badge Workshop

Additionally, we will be able to do ONLINE & PAPERLESS

  • RSVPs
  • event payments, and
  • permission slips

This will allow me to spend much less time on troop paperwork! It will allow you to read your announcements via email or online or via Big Tent Blink. Big Tent Blink sends you an email at your set frequency and notifies you of upcoming event reminders! Your member information and addresses of our events will be secure in Big Tent because our group is a “members only” group that is not advertised on their directory.

To JOIN Big Tent:

  1. Follow the link in the email invitation you received. If you did not receive an invitation or if you cannot locate it, please contact me after looking in your spam box.
  2. Create your Big Tent account and enter your name and girl scout’s name(s). You can choose to include birthdays and upload photos also.
  3. Join Creekside Girl Scouts
  4. Expect another email invitation to the subgroups that you are involved.

I have set up Creekside Girl Scouts and the following subgroups:

  • Troop 3763 Lil’ Sis’ Troop
  • Troop 3310 Creekside Cadettes
  • Troop Committee
  • plus the SU403 and GSNETX events will be posted on the main group Creekside GS for each family to determine their interest and level of activity or busy-ness.

We use Big Tent for several of the homeschool groups, field trips, and homeschool co-ops to which my friends and I belong. It partners with Paypal for payment options. You and the troop can link your checking account to Big Tent with no service fees. I will post links about the safety and security of Paypal and Big Tent. We’ve learned to prefer Paypal over our debit card online, it’s much safer!

If you are still reading, I’ll tell you about how I see this working with the blog. The Juniors of troop 8793 are no longer part of “Creekside Girl Scouts” as I have created it. Anita simply decided she didn’t need a co-leader anymore and she will remain the leader of troop 8793. We have troop 3763 for Daisies and Brownies and troop 3310 for Cadettes. Next year we may grow again to include juniors IF there are sisters of girls joining our existing troops and IF there are parents willing to be co-leaders at those levels.

I love the way our sister troops are working together and the way families with multiple ages of girl scouts are benefiting from being part of Creekside Girl Scouts. Additionally, the girls are getting their separate age appropriate Girl Scout program. As a wonderful side benefit, I feel able to minister to families that I meet in the area, often by simply listening to a mom who needs to talk.

This blog https://creeksidegs.wordpress.com will continue to be the “public” place to refer new families, a place to link to all things Girls Scouts for our members, and a place to showcase the fun Creekside Girl Scouts are having. This is a place where your daughters can read and explore too, as they venture online. This blog is Sarah’s homepage for her computer. :o) It helps her keep up with which Girl Scout event is coming up next!

Big Tent will be our “members only site” for events, calendar, cookie announcements, RSVPs, event payment, online paperless permission slips, GS announcements, and member forums, and leadership discussion. I hope you will join me on Big Tent as soon as possible and I hope it will be as profitable to protecting our busy time as moms. God Bless you this Christmas-time!

For our community service project in December, we are collecting canned food for the local food banks. Many people will be seeking food during the holidays and many organizations donate food during the holidays. If each girl brings only TWO ITEMS to the December meetings, we will take this food to the food banks in January to help them restock their shelves. There are over 500 Girl Scouts in Little Elm so this would allow us to make a huge impact by delivering 1,000 items and keep this Food Drive very simple.

Please remember they take many kinds of items. Some items they need (that we don’t often think of) are: feminine products, canned/dry dog food, toothbrushes, etc. They are also always in need of dry cereal and canned foods. Just bring in two items to the December meetings if you are able.

Keep the items in small unit packages. It is in the recipients best interest to receive smaller boxes/units as they can sometimes get more variety/quantity that way.

Thanks (again) for your service and God Bless!

When I first talked to Advantage about doing our t-shirts they implied that they would be gaining approval for the t-shirt art work and said since we’re just using the word “Girl Scouts” it would be easy to acquire. Now the price went up and they want me to go through the long process of gaining council approval for the artwork.

I don’t want to do that this month with holidays, school, and family responsibilities. So I have a new and better idea. The reason this is a new and better idea is this shirt will match our cookie prizes the girls will earn in spring. The cookie theme will be rainbow tie-dye and green with pandas. The girls will love them!

We are going to get tie-dye shirts at wholesale and not write anything on them at this time. $6 each includes shipping will get these shirts for us. I need an order for a minimum of 24 shirts to get this price.

I have the following girls and adult t-shirt sizes for orders.

CHILD

  • S Sarah, Megan, Taylor, Angelina, Christiana, Lily, Lilly, Jessica
  • M Tara, Alison
  • L Emily, Lizzie, Rachel, Erin

ADULT

  • S Alexis
  • M
  • L Christina
  • XL Cami
  • XXL Monette
  • XXXL Jean, Jenna, Monette

We need at least three more. Would you like any other shirts from this site? I’m thinking of getting this one for my son. Does anyone else need an inexpensive shirt for a sibling or a gift?

Please just comment or email the color, shirt name and size. I’d like to place this order this Wednesday. Choose these shown or shop here. Please bring $6 per shirt for any additional orders on Tuesday. Those posted above are paid for already.
Thank you!

sms_daisybullet   Tuesday 1 December 4:15 to 5:30 PM ~ Daisy & Brownie Troop Meeting
We are doing our Girl’s Rededication and Investiture Ceremonies.

Please have your uniform patches and petals up to date.

sms_daisybullet  RSVP for Saturday December 5th self-defense class is DUE. Your cost is only $5. Troop will pay $10 balance for each girl. If you RSVP and you do not attend you will owe the troop $10. The class will be in Little Elm from 12:30-1:30PM Saturday 5 December.

sms_daisybullet  RSVP for Saturday Febrary 13th International Day Event is DUE. You pay nothing. Troop will pay $5 for each girl. If you do not attend and you do not RSVP “NO” you will owe the troop $5. The International Day Event will be in Little Elm from 2:30-4PM Saturday 13 February.

sms_daisybullet  November & December dues are due $20 if you haven’t paid them yet. Please make checks payable to “GSNETX Troop#3763.” Thank you for paying them on time. I am working toward including almost all of the troop activities in our dues.

The Lil’ Sis’ Calendar is posted and up to date for 2010 until the end of the school year!

A big hearty thank you to all the families who have kept up with dues this fall!

Please note that November and December dues are due.  We need the money before the meetings to run the troop smoothly and be able to afford patches and crafts. Please pay what you can afford as soon as possible. We should have received all the dues for the fall meetings by December 2nd. Please ask if you need to know how much you need to catch up.

Cookie sales start in January but those monies won’t be available to the troop until at least April.  The Dues you pay give the troop the money to buy patches, badges, crafts, and supplies for the meetings. To get good pricing we often have to buy in bulk and buy before the meetings. Our Troop Treasury does not have money to do this unless you pay your dues ahead, as some are doing.

Thanks again.

We need sizes and quantities for each girl and adult at the November meetings.

We are excited to announce that both troops are ready to order t-shirts. They are yellow shirts and say “Creekside Girl Scouts” with pink letters and bright green bubbles. Please email Jean with your t-shirt size and quantities.  The drawing of the t-shirt design is below. Yeah Creekside!

Money and orders are Due December 2nd
